Poor sleep ages your brain - oh no!

This would strike fear in my heart if I didn't think I could improve my sleep! here's an excerpt:

The amount and quality of shuteye you get could be linked to mental deterioration and Alzheimer's disease, four new studies suggest.

Too little or too much sleep was equated with two years' brain aging in one study. A separate study concluded that people with sleep apnea…

Finding fragrance-free accomodations

Those of us who need to find fragrance-free space know that environmentally green does not usually equate with healthy living but is often a sales ploy for hotels and other accommodations. For example, there may be less waste involved if towels are not laundered daily, but this doesn’t make a room safe for someone who is looking for a fragrance-free, chemically unpolluted room. Using scented products (essential oils, organics, or herbs ) or providing scented soap and shampoo results in smelly… Continue

Corn Syrup contains mercury?

If the specter of obesity and diabetes wasn't enough to turn you off high- fructose corn syrup (HFCS), try this: New research suggests that the sweetener could be tainted with mercury, putting millions of children at risk for developmental problems.

Obama cares. Do we care enough to support reforms?

At last, we have a President who cares about the success of the country and the well-being of its people. At last, we may get some meaningful school and health care reforms. President Obama and the Congress may not get it right the first time, and that’s OK with me. At least we are not being told once again (in spite of the facts) that the US has the best health care and education systems in the world.

I have never understood how anyone can honestly believe that a poorly educated… Continue

Scent-free, Fragrance-free, Smoke-free, Pollution-free are all a part of healthy natural living

In an effort to convince the city of Boulder, CO to request that people using the city's recreation centers not use scented products in locker rooms or in the rooms containing weight-lifting and aerobic workout machines, I compiled an extensive list of facilities in the US and world-wide that either ban scented products or in the very least recognize that air polluted by the chemicals contained in scented products is unhealthy. The list includes hospitals, universities, schools, churches,… Continue

Will organic and natural solve this problem?

In a recent pilot study that included 299 swine and 20 workers from two different production systems in Iowa and Illinois ( comprising approximately 87,000 live animals) overall MRSA prevalence in swine was 49% (147/299) and 45% (9/20) in workers.

surviving my health crisis

This is a view from our balcony of the morning sun on the front range. We moved to Boulder Colorado last year from Florida after my health deteriorated steadily for about five years. The move itself was so difficult that I got much sicker and practically stayed in bed for just over three months. I occasionally thought I was dying (slowly, but surely) and persistent stomach pain for several years layered on top of a dozen other symptoms nearly drove me to the edge.

I may… Continue
